- Mount Lawley / Highgate: Inner-north with tree-lined streets, cafes, nightlife, and a strong arts scene.
- Stirling / Inglewood: Affordable inner-north options with good access to the city and Beaufort Street restaurants.
- Butler / Clarkson: Newer developments further north with more affordable housing and train connectivity.
Southern Corridor
The southern suburbs extend from Fremantle through Murdoch, Cockburn, Armadale, and down to Mandurah. The south has more greenery, hills, and the Swan Valley wine region.
Popular Southern Suburbs
- Fremantle (Freo): Historic port city with a bohemian vibe, the famous Fremantle Markets, Victoria Quay, and excellent pubs. A cultural hub with its own distinct identity.
- Subiaco: Affluent inner-south with beautiful character homes, trendy shopping along Rokeby Road, and Subiaco Oval.
- West Leederville / Leederville: Lively strip with cafes, bars, and a cinema. Popular with young professionals.
- Victoria Park: Multicultural suburb with Albany Highway's diverse restaurants. More affordable than inner-north alternatives.
- Murdoch / Winthrop: Home to Murdoch University, Fiona Stanley Hospital, and good schools. Green and spacious.
- Cockburn / Success: Growing area with modern shopping centres, parks, and train connections.
- Mandurah: The southernmost major centre, 75 min from Perth. A regional city in its own right with canals, beaches, and more affordable housing.
The Hills (Darling Scarp)
The eastern hills suburbs like Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Roleystone, and Mundaring offer a bushland lifestyle with cooler temperatures, large blocks, and beautiful views over the Swan Coastal Plain. Perfect for those wanting a tree-change while staying within 30 — 40 minutes of the city.
Beachside Living
Perth's coastal suburbs command a premium. Cottesloe, City Beach, Swanbourne, and Trigg are among the most expensive, offering direct beach access and established communities. North of the river, Sorrento and Burns Beach are also highly sought after.
